Hale Maluhia Country Inn (house of peace) was built over the years by Ken Smith for his family. He copied the local and Japanese style of an 1800's Hawaiian Plantation home. The compound is shaded by big banyan and monkey pod trees along with many fruit & nut trees. Water features and koi ponds have been included in the ohana experience. The Inn is a Kona Plantation style hide-a-way estate in the Kona Coffee Country with deep concern for privacy and aloha from old Hawai'i.
Hale Maluhia includes five bed rooms with private entrances and a virtual tree house cottage in a cluster of four buildings on a near acre of lush vegetation. The Japanese Oriental Spa has been designed with jade stone and ceramic tile and message jets. The Inn includes two large common areas. One is a large reading room library with an extensive DVD movie library. The other is a formal common area which includes a grand piano and is considered the Music Room.
The Inn is located in the heart of one of the worlds best climates at a 940 foot elevation in the Holualoa Kona Coffee Country and fruit belt. Yet the Inn is only minutes to the beach, 11 miles to the KOA/Kona (Kailua-Kona International Airport) and 3 miles to both Kailua-Kona and the art community of Holualoa. We do have extra canvas and paints and a portable and professional easel for painters to borrow.
Kona is a very special Pacific recreational paradise with world class beaches, historical sites, world class fishing and, of course, the Volcano. Kailua-Kona was the place of choice for the Alii (King and Queens) of old Hawai'i to live on the sunny side of the Big Island of Hawaii.
